Conference Description
The 57th Algonquian Conference will be held in Winnipeg at the University of Winnipeg, on Treaty One Territory, the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation, from Friday, October 17th to Sunday, October 19th, 2025.
This conference is an international meeting for Indigenous and non-indigenous scholars and community members to share research relating to Algonquian peoples, the largest First Peoples group in Canada. Fields of interest include anthropology, archaeology, art, biography, education, ethnography, ethnobotany, geography, history, land-based education, language education, linguistics, literature, music, Indigenous studies, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, and theatre.
For AC57, we have chosen the theme “Bridging Knowledges, Building Trust,” which emphasizes the importance of fostering collaborative and respectful partnerships across Indigenous and non-indigenous communities and a variety of disciplines. The gathering theme centers relational accountability in the recognition and application of Indigenous knowledges and the co-creation of new knowledges. We invite participants from many backgrounds as we share stories, research, and experiences with care and humility.

The conference will be held at the University of Winnipeg, located at 515 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Travel and Accommodations
If you are flying to Winnipeg, please book your flights to Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. The airport is about a 20-minute drive from downtown Winnipeg and a taxi or uber will cost $20-40 CAD depending on the time of day and traffic.
